Sorry I've been gone so long...

On the 2nd I got word from my Mom: my Nana was dying. She'd stopped eating and drinking, and the end was near. My entire family spent the weekend by her side, and my brother and I had worked out a schedule between us to relieve my Mom, but in the end it turned out to be unnecessary: my Nana died on Monday morning.

She was awake, and she was looking at my mother. My mother told her that she loved her, and that she was going to take care of my uncle (who's lived with my Nana his entire life). She hugged her, and then told her she could go with the light. My Nana, who had been looking at my Mom this whole time, then looked past my Mom for about a minute... and then she stopped breathing.

My mother is sure that she felt her father's presense in the room with her when my Nana died, and I'm fairly certain that the rest of my family was there with her as well. It's sad, but it's happy as well--my Nana hated the nursing facility, and she always wanted to come home. Now she's finally home.

Everyone has been wonderfully supportive, and has offered to do anything they can to help. I'm never quite sure what this means, because there really isn't anything anyone can do, but it does feel good to know so many people care. Thank you, everyone, for everything.

But most of all, thank you Nana. You've been so good to me the past 36 years, in ways I could never repay. I love you so much.
